EEFS (East End First Saturdays) is a new programme of activity taking place on the first Saturday of each month across the East End. The East End of Glasgow (The Barras, Calton & Bridgeton) comes alive on the First Saturday of each month with exhibitions, late-night openings, special events, pop-up stalls, community workshops, culture in unexpected spaces, live music, street food and more.
First Saturdays has been conceived to build new audiences and community spirit and to promote the diversity of the East End. On the first Saturday of every month, existing and new organisations open their doors to host a live event, something different, unexpected that provides a twist on their existing public programme.
With different things to see and do each month anything could happen on a First Saturdays wander. First Saturdays is open to all and free to attend unless otherwise stated, running alongside the weekly Barras Market.
Organisations will not only open their doors, but use their space to programme alternative activity to the day-to-day business, allowing anyone to explore the area on foot and experience what the East End has to offer.
First Saturdays will produce a printed map monthly, as well as a dedicated website which will host an online (open source) map and listing feature. Programme maps will also be printed and available at local organisations in the area and throughout the rest of the city.
